Stephannie belongs to an indigenous rural community in the mountains of Costa Rica, where she grew up with a passion for playing football. She became the first indigenous woman to play in the first division and to be part of the national team, and she makes the most of her position to fight widespread discrimination against indigenous women. She promotes the rights of indigenous girls, and raises awareness about the importance of identity, empowering the girls to stand up for their rights. Her footballing success has made her a role model for her community, championing the values of effort, perseverance and solidarity.
