Internship Opportunity 

KidsRights Foundation is looking for an 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻 (𝟒-𝟲 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀, 𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 September 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔) to support us with State of Youth International.

About KidsRights Foundation 

KidsRights, founded in 2003, is an international children’s rights organization that promotes the well-being of vulnerable children across the world and advocates for the realization of their rights. KidsRights has impactful and influential programs such as the International Children’s Peace Prize, the KidsRights Index and State of Youth, all aimed at amplifying youth voices and empowering young changemakers. 

What is State of Youth? 

State of Youth is here to empower young people aged 12 to 29 by building a global platform for leadership and changemaking. We give youth the opportunity to engage and act on themes related to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and guided by children’s rights principles. The ultimate goal is to create real change and impact, driven by youth, across the world. 

In 2019, KidsRights introduced State of Youth at the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates in Mexico and at the United Nations General Assembly in New York. State of Youth is the first non-political, non-religious digital “youth state” that transcends borders to unite young people worldwide. State of Youth is a global grassroots movement created for youth, by youth (ages 12–29). It provides young people with the tools, resources, and global connections needed to address the world’s most pressing challenges. Since its launch, State of Youth has expanded rapidly. Young people join as local groups – called Chapters – led by youth themselves. These Chapters represent State of Youth in their communities, engaging peers in awareness, advocacy, and action around issues that directly affect them. Between 2019 and 2026, State of Youth has worked with more than 900 Chapters across more than 70 countries, and the movement continues to grow every day. 

What will you be doing? 

Program Support 

• Support the day-to-day implementation of our program. 

• Help prepare reports by gathering activity data, results and stories from Chapters and funded projects. 

• Support monitoring and evaluation: keeping trackers and databases up to date, running surveys such as our annual Membership Survey, and helping analyse the results. 

• Support internal coordination for these workstreams, including organizing meetings, preparing agendas and notes, monitoring inboxes, and keeping program documentation in order. 

Sowing the Seeds of Change 

Sowing the Seeds of Change is our global program strengthening youth-led organizations that work on biodiversity conservation and climate action, implemented by KidsRights, Wilde Ganzen and other partners. You will support the Online Track, which brings State of Youth Chapters into cohorts for capacity building and funding. You will be working on: 

• Review and assess applications from youth-led organizations joining the Online Track cohorts (around 100 per intake), in line with the selection criteria. 

• Support the onboarding of the selected cohort organizations, making sure they are registered on the Movement Platform and correctly recorded in our systems, in coordination with the intern who maintains the platform. 

• Keep participation tracking and analytics up to date across the October and February intakes, in coordination with the agency delivering outreach and recruitment. 

• Support the capacity building and funding cycle for the cohorts, including supporting the organization of workshops and learning sessions, collecting participant feedback, and following up with organizations on their Match Funding campaigns. 

• Support the dissemination of the Global Preferendum, our worldwide study of young people’s views on biodiversity, by preparing materials for Chapters, partners and press and helping follow up on lobby and advocacy plans. 

Community Engagement 

• Act as the point of contact for the organizations and Chapter Leaders taking part in the Sowing the Seeds cohorts, answering their questions and keeping them engaged throughout the cycle. 

• Keep the cohort spaces and learning resources on the Movement Platform up to date, and help turn cohort members into active users of the community. 

• Support the engagement of our State of Youth Country Representatives and Youth Board, including meetings, youth-led workshops and elections. 

• Support community engagement on our channels together with the Digital Media Officer, including responding to messages and comments, supporting with content creation, running polls and bringing forward youth voices. 

Communications & Events 

• Coordinate global online events and campaigns, including thematic webinars for the cohorts, and other campaigns. 

• Contribute to content development and performance tracking for our newsletter, website and social media, including analysis of engagement data. 

You will work alongside a second State of Youth intern, who is responsible for the general Chapter pipeline (reviewing and onboarding new Chapter applications), funding calls, the Movement Platform and day-to-day administration. Your focus is the Sowing the Seeds cohorts, program support and community engagement, and the two of you will work closely. In addition to providing support to State of Youth International, you will also eventually support other programs and tasks in KidsRights. 

Who are we looking for? 

• Start date: 28th September 2026 (flexible by mutual agreement) 

• Duration: 4-6 months (32 hours per week) 

• Currently enrolled as a student at a recognized university or higher education institution, in a field such as international development, social or political sciences, environmental studies, communications, or human and children’s rights. 

• Knowledge and/or strong interest in children’s rights, youth empowerment, and biodiversity or climate action is an asset. 

• Ability to work well with others, build relationships, and collaborate effectively in an international team environment. 

• Excellent writing and organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to run several workstreams at once, plan ahead and keep track of tasks. 

• Strong communication skills, including excellent (spoken and written) English. Fluency in French, Spanish or Portuguese will be considered an asset. 

• Must be legally authorized to work in the Netherlands for the full duration of the internship. Unfortunately, we can’t provide any support to the obtention of a work permit. 

• Comfortable working with data and administrative systems. Knowledge of Excel and of Salesforce or similar databases is an advantage. 

• Skills in visual communication and design tools, particularly Canva, are an advantage. 

You will work directly with the State of Youth International team under the guidance of its Program Manager, with day-to-day direction from the Program Officer and close coordination with the Digital Media Officer on communications. The position is based in our historic office building in the centre of Amsterdam. There is also the possibility of partial remote work within the Netherlands, in consultation with the team.
