Access to educational opportunities regardless of socioeconomic status

Kendall Tai Nghiem and Kinsler Nghiem

Kendall Tai Nghiem (16), is from the United States. Growing up in a multicultural household in the United States, Tai realized early on how powerful language can be — it’s what connects people to each other and to opportunity.

Tai used that belief to create a tutoring program focused on STEM education, ESL, and bilingual education in Spanish, giving vital support to students from financially challenged families. To make it happen, Tai had to find funding for materials and a space to hold classes. The effort paid off — many students improved their grades and confidence, with several going on to pursue higher education and careers in STEM, crediting the program for sparking their interest.

Tai also co-authored books that break down science and math concepts for children, including topics like health and nutrition, helping kids build the knowledge to make informed decisions for themselves.

Through regular tutoring sessions, community outreach, and accessible resources, Tai is helping level the playing field for students who need it most.
