Murshid Alam
“Every child deserves the right to learn, live safely, and have their voice heard, and by empowering children today, we can create stronger, fairer communities for the future.”

Murshid Alam (17), grew up as a Rohingya refugee in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, after being forced from his home in Myanmar. Living in overcrowded camps with limited access to formal education, he witnessed children around him facing poverty, interrupted schooling, child marriage, and gender inequality — realities that shaped his sense of justice from an early age.
Determined to help, Murshid organized youth-led awareness sessions on child protection, early marriage, gender equality, and access to education, typically reaching 50 to 100 participants per session and giving children the knowledge to advocate for themselves in their own families and communities.
He also built peer learning programs to support children who struggle to access formal schooling, ensuring their education continues and fostering a culture of mentorship among youth. These programs have directly supported over 1,000 children and young people in the camps.
Through online platforms, including oral history storytelling, Murshid’s advocacy has reached thousands more, with his webinars and leadership workshops engaging 200+ participants per session, including children, caregivers, and peer mentors.
With the support of his parents, mentors, and humanitarian organizations, Murshid has turned his own experience of displacement into hope for thousands of children still living it.
