Why would I nominate a child for the International Children’s Peace Prize?
The International Children’s Peace Prize is awarded annually to a child, anywhere in the world, for his or her dedication to children’s rights. The International Children’s Peace Prize is a sign of recognition for the young winner. He or she receives the statuette ‘Nkosi’, which shows how a child sets the world in motion. The winner also receives a study grant and a world-wide platform to promote his or her ideals and causes to the benefit of children’s rights. A project fund of €100,000 is invested by KidsRights in projects that are closely connected to the winners’ area of work.

What is the process followed to select a winner for the International Children’s Peace Prize?
Each year the International Children’s Peace Prize winner is selected from nominations from all over the world. An Expert Committee assesses the candidates and comprises a selected list of nominees. The shortlisted nominees are reviewed and investigated by KidsRights. A local visit to a nominee may also be part of the review process. After all the reviews are done, the Expert Committee then selects the winner of the International Children’s Peace Prize.
Can I nominate myself for the International Children’s Peace Prize?
No, you cannot nominate yourself for the International Children’s Peace Prize. You may want to find someone around you to nominate you for the prize.
The call for nominations is closed for this year. How do I nominate a child for next year?
Send an email to nominations@childrenspeaceprize.org and we will make sure to keep you updated on the nomination process, as well as the International Children’s Peace Prize. As soon as the nomination process for the next year starts, we will inform you.
Can I nominate a child who was nominated previously?
Yes, you may nominate a child who was previously nominated. Even though a child was not selected winner for the Children’s Peace Prize in one year, he or she may still be selected in a succeeding year.
I work with a group of interesting children. Can I nominate the whole group together?
Yes, provided that every individual in the group made a provable effort and co-initiated the activities that resulted in an exceptional difference for the rights of the child and the position of vulnerable children, anywhere in the world (organizations as a whole will not be considered).
Can I nominate a child from an economically developed country?
Yes, the International Children’s Peace Prize is for children above 12 years and under 18 years of age from all over the world.
Can I nominate someone who is 18 years old?
No, the nominated child should not be older than 17 years by the time of the nomination deadline.
What is the role of the nominating organisation/individual?
The organisation or individual nominating a child (the nominating party) has the responsibility to inform the child and get his/her approval for the nomination. The nominating party agrees to provide the necessary information to KidsRights to complete the nomination. In case the child is shortlisted for the International Children’s Peace Prize, the nominating party also has the responsibility to guide and assist the child in dealing with (media) attention for his/her story. In case the child is shortlisted as the winner, the nominating party provides assistance for the local check by KidsRights and the development of the life story of the winner. Furthermore, the nominating party assists the child in his/her preparation for the award ceremony and is, besides the winner, the first point of contact for KidsRights. The nominating party may also be invited to attend the ceremony and assist the child during this period. The nominating party is not expected to bear any costs for the nomination or nominee, nor does it have any legal responsibilities/entitlements. KidsRights invests a project sum of €100,000 in projects in the winner’s home country that are closely connected to his or her area of work. If the nominating party meets the project criteria, the organisation may be invited to participate in the call the proposals.
Which organization endorses the International Children’s Peace Prize?
The KidsRights Foundation is the organisation behind the International Children’s Peace Prize. KidsRights promotes the wellbeing of very vulnerable children across the world and advocates the realization of their rights. KidsRights sees children as changemakers in this process. The International Children’s Peace Prize is one of the key platforms that KidsRights facilitates.
What is the link between the Nobel Peace Prize and the International Children’s Peace Prize?
The Children’s Peace Prize was launched by KidsRights during the 2005 Nobel Peace Laureates’ Summit chaired by Mikhail Gorbachev. Since then, the prize has been presented every year by a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate.
