Child Refugees

For many people, it is no longer safe to live in their own country because of the constant danger that war entails. This forces them to flee to another country. This does not only affect the adults, but also a lot of children. The rights of these children are not always adequately protected in the refugee camps.

One of these rights is the right to education. Many refugee children do not have access to education. There are many factors that result in refugee children not being able to go to school. This may be due to a language barrier, they can fall behind in their education because of the war and as a result cannot keep up at school, or because there is no school in the area where they can go to.

What does KidsRights do?

KidsRights works together with local partners to realize education for child refugees through research, action and advocacy.

In 2017, the Syrian Mohamad Al Jounde received the International Children’s Peace Prize from the hands of Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and International Children’s Peace Prize Winner Malala Yousafzai, for his tireless efforts to ensure the rights of Syrian refugee children. To support Mohamad, KidsRights invests the Children’s Peace Prize Project Fund 2017 in projects in the field of education for child refugees.

In addition, KidsRights has published two reports on education for Syrian child refugees.
