We are excited to announce that we are now accepting applications for the International Children’s Peace Prize Project Fund (‘Project Fund’) for State of Youth Chapters to support changemaking projects advancing equal rights and opportunities for girls and women (Gender Equality).

Every year, KidsRights awards the International Children’s Peace Prize  to a child who fights courageously for children’s rights. In addition to supporting the winners, KidsRights also supports projects of other young changemakers related to the winner’s theme.

This call for applications follows the work of the 2024 International Children’s Peace Prize Winner – Nila Ibrahimi, who is fighting for girls’ and women’s rights by advocating for their right to go to school. Nila’s efforts are aimed at advancing gender equality in the world!

Gender Equality (United Nations Sustainable Development Goal number 5) is a crucial component of the right of children against non-discrimination, as guaranteed by Article 2 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Changemaking projects of State of Youth Chapters advancing gender equality may focus on the following (non-exhaustive list):

  • Improving access to schools and education (school enrolment).
  • Empowering through capacity-building and other methods (STEM, upskilling).
  • Improving social, economic and/or political participation (pay-gap, access to public spaces, political representation and empowerment).
  • Raising awareness against stereotypes and stigma.
  • Equality in politics, including equal representation.
  • Efforts to end early and forced marriages and unions, female genital mutilation, period-inequality.
