Nominee in the Spotlight

We are the children of today, and the future does not wait.

Adaleina Kamal Tohme (17), Teya Abouassaly (17), Nada El Halabi (17), Wassim Abou Ibrahim (17), and Samer Charrouf (16) are a group of young changemakers from Lebanon who saw how forest fires can put children’s lives at risk. Their experience inspired the Fire Capsule Project, an innovative way to help forests recover after fires while protecting children’s right to a healthy environment.

The team designed capsules containing rare and native seeds, nutrients and growth-supporting materials inside a honey wax coating. Drones distribute the capsules across high-risk forest areas before fires occur. When a fire heats the capsules, the wax melts and releases the seeds, helping them germinate after the fire.

The project supports forest restoration, biodiversity and environmental education. Families, municipalities, the Ministry and universities have supported the team with resources, distribution plans and research. The team is now working to connect children and municipalities and expand distribution across Lebanese forests and, eventually, worldwide.
