Sufaira

Nominee in the Spotlight

“Every child deserves education, safety, and a voice, no matter where they are born.

Sufaira (17), is a young Rohingya girl living in a refugee camp in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, originally from Myanmar. Growing up amid displacement, poverty and insecurity, she has seen how children, especially girls, face barriers to education, safety, and protection. These experiences inspired her to stand up for their rights.

Sufaira leads awareness sessions on children’s rights, girls’ education, early marriage, child abuse, human trafficking, and gender equality. She encourages girls to attend learning centres and continue their education, while identifying vulnerable children and connecting them with available support.

She also speaks with parents and community members about child protection and shares messages through Facebook and WhatsApp groups. In this way, she brings children’s rights into everyday conversations within her community.

Supported by her family, Sufaira continues her advocacy despite the challenges of life in a refugee camp. In an environment where opportunities for education are being severely restricted her awareness sessions, community engagement and online messages reach children, parents, and other community members, helping spread knowledge about girls’ education, child protection, and children’s rights.
