Alex grew up with a father that was in and out of prison, reason for which she has suffered many hardships. Her father’s arrest was extremely traumatizing and her mental health suffered greatly. She endured extreme bullying in school, which resulted in her having to move schools. Alex told her story to raise awareness and fight for young people with a parent in prison to be able to access support. Her story was shared via the BBC documentary “Prison, My Parents and Me” in 2016. As a result of this, she helped raise money for Children in Need. The documentary also referred children with similar problems to MyTime for support. Alex has attended the International Children’s Forum “CATS” (Children as Actors for Transforming Society) to advocate for children of prisoners and shared her story several times at the Human Library to an international live audience. She is part of a group of child consultants where she helps designing the prototype for a self-help application for children of prisoners.
