Anxhela’s family struggles everyday with poverty and her father’s unemployment. Since her mother left when she was six, she has been the only one to care for the family. Anxhela is the best student in her class. She joined the child led group “Voice 16+”. Its mission is to empower children to have their rights respected in school, family and community. At school level, Anxhela has contributed to create an inclusive school environment for children. She helped increasing parents’ interest in their children’s education and contributed to reduce the number of girls dropping out of school. At community level, she is part of the children advisory group to the Municipality Council and is being consulted on children’s issues. She reached to influence local government decisions during the municipal budgeting process. At the national level, due to her lobbying, the Parliament appointed the first commissioner of Child Rights Protection and Promotion Section.
