Enrika was born with a hearing and speech impairment. Her parents became aware of her disability when she was 8 months old. Being deaf in Uganda was something difficult to navigate as there was little to no knowledge on how she could be assisted. Being a deaf girl and seeing how other deaf children like her were being mistreated in Uganda, was the driving force behind Enrika’s activism. Children in Uganda with hearing and speech impairment are often marginalized.
