Ester grew up in a rural Maya community, facing poverty and gender discrimination. In 2019, she represented the MAIA Impact School in Dubai as part of the Zayed Sustainability Prize. Ester has also facilitated virtual and in-person trainings and discussion panels on innovation, entrepreneurship, and empowerment with youth from around the world. Ester was elected President of the Zayed Sustainable Garden Project at the MAIA Impact School. Ester has facilitated a number of episodes of La Voz de MAIA Podcast (The Voice of MAIA), a student-run radio and podcast program that creates a media presence for Maya women. She will continue to empower youth and Maya women by participating in her local political body.
