Fatoumatta is a 14-year-old child rights activist. Fatoumatta was elected to serve in the first Children National Assembly of The Gambia as the Speaker for Kanifing Municipality. She has engaged Lord Mayor of Kanifing Municipality on the inclusion of children in the Municipal development process, which led to including a budget line for children in the Municipal annual development plan and budget. She used the media to influence actions towards children rights both by the government and the private sector. She organized school-based campaigns on the UNCRC, ACRWC, Optional Protocols and the Children’s Act of 2005. This resulted in a closer relationship between schools and students. Her work also contributed to diminishing physical punishment in her school. Fatoumatta participated in the Voluntary National Review of the SDGs providing a child perspective of the SDGs and suggesting how the government can achieve the SDGs. In the future, she plans to continue her activities and influence other regions and municipalities to consider budget lines for children in their development plans.
