Iftekhar from Bangladesh is a 17 year old boy who is determined to create a technology that could provide a sustainable solution for the education of blind children worldwide, especially the poor ones. Iftekhar himself has a slight vision problem and one of his closest friends is completely blind. This has led him to see from a young age how inaccessible and expensive resources for blind people are. Iftekhar created a program that can help the blind with their education. He assembled different pieces of hardware to create an easy to operate and cheap device. He produced a Braille Board for 70$ and a Braille Board Lite version for 40$. The computers contain different resources and over 10.000 books which help the blind read and learn. Iftekhar also created the Blind Eye App, which can be used on people’s smartphone. At the moment about 20 students are using his Braille Board. With more funds, Iftekhar could help more children. He is lobbying with the government of Bangladesh to provide the device to all blind students of Bangladesh.
