Jacob is a 16 year old Congolese refugee, living in Uganda. However, he did not let his status define him. He founded his own organization, Youth Initiative for Development in Africa (YIDA), which is led by the community youth, and he works as the chief mobilizer in the community. As a result of Jacob’s endless efforts, YIDA managed to establish three Early Childhood Learning Centers in the refugee camp, educating 317 children and providing 20 jobs to refugee youth. Jacob wants to accommodate more refugee children by building more refugee schools and wants to improve their health. He does this by telling other children that using drugs will not solve their problem and that they should take action if they want to make a change.
