Lalita is a 15-year old girl from Dera village. She is the President of National Maha Bal Panchayat (National Children’s Council) formed as part of Bal Mitra Gram Programme (Child-Friendly Villages) of Kailash Satyarthi Children’s Foundation. She worked with parents and village communities to ensure the retention of children in schools. She made sure that all school-going age children are enrolled in school. This included the withdrawal of children from domestic work and regularization of irregular and drop-out children. Lalita has enrolled and retained 30 children to school. She also advocated for the elimination of discriminatory practices in schools against children from lower castes. Lalita is determined to eliminate this grievous exploitation of children. As part of this, she leads awareness generation activities in the villages. Besides, she reported cases of child marriage to government authorities. Lalita’s efforts have helped to make her village child marriage free. In the future, Lalita wants to expand her activities, continue spreading the message of child-friendliness, liaise with government authorities for children rights and become a doctor.
