Mwesigwa Samuel, a 15-year-old from Uganda, has transformed his personal struggles with mental disability, bullying, and exclusion into a powerful advocacy for children with disabilities. Growing up in a challenging family environment, Samuel experienced severe bullying from classmates and even teachers, which affected his mental health and access to education. With psychosocial support, counseling, and guidance from the Uganda National Self Advocacy Initiative (UNSAI) and the encouragement of his parents, Samuel overcame these obstacles and dedicated himself to promoting inclusive, safe, and supportive learning environments for all children.

Samuel’s impact spans both online and offline efforts in his community. He has conducted campaigns in seven schools in Kayunga Sub County, reaching over 700 students and engaging 50 teachers on inclusive education practices. He established six student-led anti-bullying and inclusion clubs, positively influencing 120 learners and supporting children with disabilities to return to school. His work encourages inclusive practices, empowers peers to support one another, and has helped schools implement proactive measures against bullying. Samuel’s advocacy continues to transform communities, ensuring that children with disabilities are recognized, respected, and given equal opportunities to learn and thrive.
