When Nandhini was 14 years old, her aunt wanted to marry her off. On the day of her wedding, she managed to save herself from marriage by calling the authorities. Now she wants to help people understand the harm that child marriage can do and how important education is. On the National Girl Child Day 2018 Nandhini received an award as ‘girl child empowerment champion’ by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Edappadi K. Palaniswami. She received a prize and her story was disseminated in the media. She gave a speech in Viveganadha Vidhyalaya Primary School at Tirukoilur. More than 1000 students and 75 teachers and 35 other delegates participated. During a Legal Awareness campaign on women related issues, she participated at a a meeting for college students in Arunai Engineer College. Over 2000 students attended the event besides the District Principal Magistrate, State Women Commission President and Secretary, Sub Judge from District Legal Aid Service. She participated in the ‘Stand up for Girls’ event in Milan and gave a speech at an event in France where more than 100 people participated.
