Since Soni’s family lives in a temporary home in the port area, there is always a possibility of the local police breaking down the homes and confiscating possessions. In 2011, Soni was introduced to the mobile learning centre where she helped Save the Children to convince many community members to send children who are out of school to study at the mobile learning centre. Her contributions varied from identifying children who are out of school to making sure that parents trust the teachers with their children. She also identified children who were forced to work and showed them that they too can come to the centre and study. Now she is a leader of her Children’s Group of 20 members. As a leader, Soni started an initiative to ensure that the dock area remains clean. Recently, she has also been chosen to represent India at the Street Child Cricket World Cup.
