Soraya, a 16-year-old from Afghanistan, has shown extraordinary courage in advocating for children’s rights, especially girls’ education. Growing up in a context where girls are systematically denied access to learning, she transformed her home into a secret classroom to teach English and other subjects, providing knowledge, hope, and mentorship. She also supports students with scholarship applications, guiding them to pursue education abroad and connecting them with resources, while raising awareness locally about the importance of education and gender equality.
Supported by her sister, who provides mentorship and financial guidance, Soraya has expanded her impact both online and offline. She manages a WhatsApp group of 350 members, sharing educational resources and opportunities, while her secret classroom and guidance sessions have reached between 500 and 2,000 students. Through her dedication, Soraya empowers Afghan girls, strengthens their resilience, and advocates for their right to learn despite systemic barriers.
