Tendo, a 16-year-old from Kampala, Uganda, has transformed her personal experiences of growing up in a low-income family into a powerful platform for change. Witnessing the struggles of her parents and the bullying her sibling endured, she became determined to advocate for children’s rights. She has delivered speeches at schools, community events, and conferences, reaching thousands with her message of empowerment. Through over 20 workshops and webinars, she has educated more than 1,000 participants, while her petitions for better education, healthcare, and child protection have collected over 5,000 signatures and influenced local policy.
Her advocacy extends both online and offline: with over 10,000 social media followers and a widely viewed campaign video, she has amplified children’s voices across Uganda. Offline, her work has contributed to tangible improvements, including a community library serving 500 children, a mobile health clinic reaching over 1,000 children, and enhanced child protection services. By mentoring peers and engaging directly with policymakers, Tendo is building a movement that ensures children are heard, protected, and empowered.
