Aadarsh, a 16-year-old from Odisha, India, turned a childhood trauma during Cyclone Phailin into a lifelong commitment to protecting vulnerable communities. When a tree crashed through his home, his fear for his mother’s safety inspired him to fight for disaster preparedness and child protection. He went on to found Ruins to Resilience (R2R), a youth-led initiative combining technology and mass mobilization to achieve zero casualties during natural disasters. Supported by the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority and national NGOs, Aadarsh has developed an app in 28 languages that has already reached over 100,000 people with lifesaving information, while training hundreds of student volunteers to prepare evacuation plans for at-risk coastal villages.

Beyond disaster resilience, Aadarsh leads initiatives tackling inequality and education. Through his E³ (Educate, Empower, Enterprise) program, he has trained over 800 incarcerated youth in enterprise-building, generating $18,000 in income and securing jobs for many post-release. He also works with Mauka and TeachSpeech to mobilize thousands of volunteers, connect NGOs, and deliver life skills training to students across five states. From grassroots preparedness to systemic advocacy, Aadarsh is proving that youth leadership can transform vulnerability into resilience and build hope for the future.
