Daniel is a young activist from the Kakuma Refugee Camp (origin Congo) who has witnessed the devastating effects of climate change, particularly drought, on children’s education. Many students are forced to miss school to fetch water, disrupting their learning and daily lives. Motivated by this challenge, Daniel launched a tree-planting initiative to restore the environment, improve water retention, and reduce the burden on children. His work combines environmental restoration with children’s rights advocacy, showing that sustainable climate action can directly support education and community resilience. Despite financial constraints and the challenges of being a refugee, Daniel has demonstrated remarkable determination and creativity, using online resources to strengthen his project and inspire others.
Through his initiative, Daniel has educated participants about environmental conservation, planted trees that improve water availability, and mobilized over 150 community members. By easing water scarcity, more children can attend school consistently, and his efforts are already creating a lasting impact on both the environment and the educational opportunities for children in Kakuma.
