Ianna

Nominated by Mary Atieno Otieno

All 2025 Children’s Peace Prize Nominees

Ianna, 14, is a passionate advocate for child-friendly, sustainable environments in Kenya. Her advocacy began as a child, questioning why poor environmental conditions limited play and healthy living. She has since championed access to clean, safe spaces, education, and healthcare for children, linking climate justice directly to children’s rights. Ianna works to engage communities, parents, and local governments to create healthier, more sustainable environments for all children, from urban schools to rural forests.

Supported by her parents, local communities, and organizations such as Safaricom, Coca-Cola, Kenya Forest Service, and EnviroSave, Ianna has mobilized youth-led tree planting, plastic collection, and environmental education initiatives. She has engaged national and local policymakers to advocate for child-friendly laws, visited schools and orphanages to promote clean and safe play areas, and inspired many families to take action for the environment. Online, she has reached over 1 million people through social media, interviews, and print media. Offline, her projects contribute to SDGs 1, 2, 5, 8, 13, 14, and 15, including tree planting, environmental awareness, and community engagement, fostering a healthier future for children in Kenya.
