Naomi, a 15-year-old from Lagos, Nigeria, is an environmental advocate addressing the urgent problem of plastic pollution in her community of Ajegunle. Witnessing blocked drains, flooding, and environmental hazards firsthand, she founded the initiative “Trash to Treasure” in 2023 to educate and empower young people to take action. Naomi’s initiative teaches students in public schools to upcycle plastic waste into useful, sellable items such as jewelry and ottomans, combining environmental awareness with practical skills and income opportunities.

Through her workshops, cleanups, and awareness campaigns, Naomi has engaged over 600 students across five schools, inspiring a new generation of environmental stewards. Online, she has built a supportive community via WhatsApp and Instagram, sharing educational content and practical tips for reducing plastic pollution. Backed by her parents, mentors, and organizations like WILAN, Naomi continues to promote climate education and sustainable practices, demonstrating the power of youth leadership in creating a cleaner, safer, and more resilient community.
