Ryleigh, a 13-year-old from the United States, has dedicated herself to advocating for children living with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Having experienced the physical and emotional challenges of this autoimmune condition firsthand, she aims to raise awareness about the daily realities of T1D and the urgent need for research toward a cure. Ryleigh was accepted into the selective Breakthrough T1D Children’s Congress, where she has developed presentations, written letters to congressional representatives, and engaged in advocacy to ensure continued funding for T1D research. Her mission is not only to inform policymakers but also to empower peers, families, and her community to support children living with chronic illnesses.
Through her school and local community, Ryleigh has reached nearly 100 students with presentations and interactive discussions on T1D, inspiring greater understanding and empathy. Her work with Breakthrough T1D positions her to directly influence lawmakers on Capitol Hill, making her a young leader shaping the future of diabetes research and pediatric healthcare advocacy.
