Setayesh, a 17-year-old from Afghanistan, has turned her personal struggles into a powerful mission to defend girls’ right to education. Growing up in a country where access to schooling is restricted for many girls, she initiated online classes through Google Meet and Zoom, reaching over 10,000 girls with English and essential subjects. She also taught 780 girls technology skills and university application guidance, enabling many to pursue higher education despite barriers.
Her work extends beyond academics: Setayesh has organized workshops, distributed learning materials, and created safe spaces where girls can learn and gain confidence. As a Global STEM Citizen Changemaker, she launched a book competition empowering Afghan girls and was recognized by the University of Pennsylvania for its social impact. She also serves as an international leader at the Rukn Foundation, where she provides free English lessons and mentorship. Through her leadership, Setayesh has become a role model, ensuring education remains a source of hope and possibility for Afghan girls.
