Rhiya Natalia Armogan
When we engineer an end to the invisible labor that steals a girl’s time, we don’t just give her back her childhood, we give the world back her potential

Rhiya Armogan (16), from Canada, began her dedication to children’s rights during a visit to the Amerindian community of Santa Mission in Guyana. She saw young girls spending 14 to 20 hours each week handwashing clothes in local creeks, taking away time they could spend learning and simply being children.
Rhiya created TerraWash, a hand-powered, off-grid washing machine designed to reduce this burden. She also founded the TerraWash Global Association, a registered Canadian NGO, to support her mission and work closely with communities.
Her approach starts at grassroots level. She has built relationships with community leaders, mentors and international partners to bring the solution to the girls and women who need it most.
Her work has generated preliminary interest from more than 125,000 Amerindian people, while a pilot has directly impacted 1,000 women and girls. As a Youth Fellow and through an invitation to the 81st UN General Assembly, Rhiya is also bringing the issue of girls’ time, education and opportunity to international platforms.
