Vantace

No child chooses where they are born, but all children have a right to peace and choice. Our courage can light the path for others. We will not be silent!

Vantace (15), is from Afghanistan. Vantace, has found freedom and safety through art. As a queer boy from the Hazara minority, he has experienced discrimination, exclusion and violence. His experiences drive him to speak up for children and young people whose freedom of expression is restricted.

Through painting, dancing and public performances, Vantace raises awareness of children’s rights in Afghanistan. His artwork gives visibility to children, especially girls and LGBTQIA+ young people. In 2022-2023, he also founded the Arvaz Team, using expressive protest dance to highlight the challenges children and young people face under Taliban rule.

His art has reached thousands. The Arvaz Team’s Instagram page grew to more than 22,000 followers, while the teaser for his short film Dancing Through Life received more than 20,000 views. Even when safety concerns forced the account to close temporarily, Vantace continued using art to show that restrictions cannot silence young people’s dreams and voices.
