Claire Wang

Nominee in the Spotlight

“Education should be something girls can reach, not something they have to fight to deserve.”

Claire Wang (17), from the United States, was inspired to act by her grandmother’s story. Her grandmother lost access to education at the age of seven and was forced to work in rural China instead of pursuing her dream of becoming a teacher. Claire realised that millions of girls around the world still face barriers to education.

Claire co-founded Future Female Scholars, a global nonprofit expanding girls’ access to free education. As president, Claire recruited more than 1,300 student tutors and mentors from 70 countries and built a global network offering free one-on-one tutoring, mentorship and educational resources.

The organisation has helped more than 1 million girls access educational support and opportunities. Its website now has more than 5,000 monthly users and offers learning resources and a free AI chatbot. Girls in countries including Kazakhstan, India and Nigeria can now access free support to help shape their education and careers.
