Jesus Alejandro Fernandez Yañez
"Peace begins when children are listened to, respected and recognized as protagonists of the present."

Jesus Alejandro Fernandez Yañez (14) from Colombia noticed early on that many children didn’t have the same opportunities to be heard, participate, or grow up in safe environments. This awareness sparked a deep sensitivity to injustice and exclusion, and a strong belief: peace starts when children’s rights are respected and children are treated as valuable members of society.
Jesus worked to raise awareness about children’s rights, education, and protection through peer engagement and advocacy within his community. He collaborated with youth groups and schools to promote inclusive participation and leadership among children, aligning his efforts with national child rights priorities and global Sustainable Development Goals. He also used digital platforms and social media to spread messages about peace, children’s rights, and youth participation, extending his reach across regions and countries.
Supported by a family that instilled values of empathy, respect, and social responsibility, Jesus has built a foundation for change that goes beyond his own community. By combining local action with digital reach, he’s helping ensure more children see themselves not as bystanders, but as active participants in building a more just and peaceful society.
