The child’s key message is that change is possible when young people take action. They emphasize that even small efforts when driven by passion and purpose can transform lives, empower communities, and create a better future for all.

Monicah Nyangot Panchol Areet (16), Jok Ajith Solomon Kuol (15), Jackline Athiak Ajith (15), Akima Nyankiir Tabitha Reec (15), Esther Ajai Kur Garang (15) are a group of young changemakers from South Sudan. The group understand how financial hardship can limit children’s access to education and necessities. Their own experiences inspired them to support children who have fewer opportunities.
They established the Umbrella of Hope Initiative, a child-centred organisation supporting vulnerable and street-connected children. The group provides daily meals, clean water and clothing while also organising activities that teach children about their rights and encourage them to speak up and seek protection.
The young people run peer mentoring activities that help disadvantaged children access basic education. They also use debates and leadership activities to amplify children’s voices on issues affecting them and organize initiatives focused on children’s health and wellbeing.
Through music and the arts, the group inspire hope among children and their wider community. Their work is supported by their parents, who enable them to take part in the Umbrella of Hope Initiative and help turn their commitment into action.
