Afsana Khatun

Every child deserves safety, dignity, and a chance to grow.

Afsana (15), from Bangladesh, lives with her parents and two younger sisters in Pargobindopur Village. Now in Grade 10 at a Madrasha, Afsana is reaching the highest level of education in her family.

In 2024, Afsana and her friends from the child centre launched the Hygiene Hero campaign. They raised awareness about personal and family hygiene by organizing small campaigns and speaking directly with community members.

Their efforts are changing daily habits across the village. Most households now keep soap in their bathrooms and use sandals, helping improve hygiene and reduce illness. Afsana’s campaigns have reached more than 10,000 people in person, including more than 2,500 people through health campaigns. She also reached around 350 people with a campaign encouraging families and communities to commit to preventing child marriage, inspired by her older sister who was married at just age 12.
