Geraldine Nelly Davila Anton, Alexis Ospino

We work to make breathing easier for those who can't afford it, because life shouldn't depend on access to healthcare, and no one should have to fight for something as basic as air. Health is not a luxury.

Geraldine Nelly Davila Anton (17) and Alexis Ospino (17) are from Peru. Geraldine grew up with a family member born with severe pneumonia who needed a CPAP device from birth, a machine so expensive it became a constant financial strain on the family. That experience showed Geraldine and her friend Alexis just how many children are priced out of the respiratory care they need to survive.

Together, they designed and developed low-cost CPAP masks using affordable 3D printing, recycled plastics, and medical-grade silicone, tackling the sky-high costs of respiratory support head-on. Through interviews and surveys, they identified the real barriers families face, whether it’s cost, access to medication, or lack of medical guidance. They collaborated closely with medical and engineering experts to test and improve the mask’s fit and safety, while also running awareness sessions in schools and communities about respiratory conditions and early diagnosis.

Their project, AerlyPap, has built a strong following online, generating over 4,000 monthly interactions across social media. It’s also been recognized by respected institutions like the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and Peru’s Ministry of Education. Through affordable innovation, Geraldine and Alexis are making sure a child’s ability to breathe doesn’t depend on their family’s income.
