High quality education is not only for the most fortunate, it is a right every child deserves.

Laura Camila Rivas Bautista

Laura Camila Rivas Bautista (16) is from Colombia. Growing up in a middle-class family in Colombia, Laura had access to education many others don’t. Seeing Venezuelan migrant children in her community without that same access moved her to act.

Laura built a space where migrant children feel safe, welcomed, and valued — teaching them English and geography so they understand the world beyond their own struggles. She also arranged meals, transportation, and fun activities like pool days, making sure their needs went beyond just the classroom.

Knowing that many of these children face real hardships that threaten their ability to stay in school, Laura goes beyond teaching — she mentors young girls directly, helping them build self-respect and stay focused on their futures despite difficult circumstances. She also offers free English classes to Colombian children from low-income families.

Every week, Laura documents her work, capturing the children’s progress and daily lives to share their stories more widely.

With her parents’ encouragement, Laura is showing that access to opportunity means more when it’s shared.
