Sahar Azimi

Let’s work together to make a different world, a world where girls have access to education, be themselves, live freely, and follow their dreams.

Sahar Azimi (17), is from Afghanistan, now living in Canada. Sahar’s fight for girls’ education is deeply personal. Growing up in Afghanistan, her basic human rights were stripped away at just 12 years old when the Taliban returned to power — including her right to an education.

Rather than stay silent, Sahar started a YouTube channel called “Sahar Calls for Action,” uploading 25 videos in both Persian and English in just six months to raise awareness about gender apartheid and the historical denial of education to Afghan girls.

She also taught Afghan girls online for two months through the Afghans Better Life Organization, helping keep education alive for girls who had lost access to school. Sahar has also taken part in Girls Belong Here (GBH), connecting her advocacy to a wider global movement.

With the support of her parents, other adults, and organizations behind her, Sahar continues to turn her own painful experience into a powerful voice for Afghan girls still fighting for their right to learn.
