Shanariha Evans

“Children and youth are powerful agents of change; by protecting our environment today, we secure a healthy, sustainable, and just future for all generations.”

Shanariha Evans

Shanariha Evans (14) is an environmental and children’s rights advocate from Mombasa, Kenya. Growing up near the ocean, she saw firsthand how plastic pollution and climate change were damaging marine ecosystems and threatening the health and future of coastal communities—especially children.

Determined to make a difference, Shanariha runs a climate education program that has reached over 2,000 students across 38 public schools, teaching them about climate change and sustainable living. She also wrote a children’s book, The Ocean Warrior, which uses storytelling to inspire young readers to protect the ocean. On top of that, she leads community mangrove restoration projects along the Kenyan coast, helping plant over 270,000 mangrove trees to protect coastlines and marine life.
