Laura Valentina Martínez Cubillos

Laura (14), is from Colombia. Growing up in Villanueva, Casanare, amid the migratory crisis, Laura developed a deep sensitivity to the struggles around her. At just 11, she joined Fundación M&M Formando Líderes, driven by her passion for teaching.

Laura believes education can be a tool for freedom and self-confidence — and she’s put that belief into action. Since primary school, she has been helping teachers and peers, and one of her most creative contributions has been teaching Basic Mandarin Chinese and English to vulnerable children. She believes that learning a language as different as Mandarin helps Venezuelan migrant and local Colombian children break down mental barriers and step outside their comfort zones.

In 2024 alone, Laura dedicated an incredible 278 hours to face-to-face workshops in Mathematics, Science, Spanish, and Geography — alongside specialized language tutoring, including English at Cambridge B1 level and Chinese at HSK 1 level.

Laura’s commitment goes far beyond her years, proving that even a teenager can be a powerful force for change in her community.
