Karan Aggarwal

Young people are not leaders of tomorrow; we are decision-makers of today when given the opportunity, knowledge, and trust to participate.

Karan (17), is from India. Karan grew up in a highly competitive academic environment where exam results mattered more than student voice or real-world skills. He noticed that students were pushed to succeed individually but rarely given the chance to learn, lead, or make decisions together.

To change this, Karan led Deepshikha, a student-run enterprise operating within his school for several years. It gives students hands-on experience with financial literacy and economic participation — far beyond what any textbook can teach. Karan introduced a shareholding model, financial planning processes, and student-led decision-making committees, so participants could learn how real economic systems work.

He also made sure the enterprise was open to everyone — not just top academic performers. Students from different grades and academic streams took part in budgeting, operations, and strategy, building inclusive leadership from the ground up.

Not stopping there, Karan founded the International Debaters Association, opening up structured civic dialogue to students beyond his own school.

With support from his parents, who encourage independence and social awareness, Karan is helping students discover that their voice — and their vote — matters.
