Aaron Shen
Disaster-relief and public safety should not be a privilege, rather, an inalienable right that should not be constrained by the social or financial burdens a community faces.
Aaron Shen (16), is from the United States. Aaron Shen grew up in a predominantly low-income, minority community and saw how the COVID-19 pandemic hit immigrant and marginalized families especially hard. Many struggled to access basic necessities like food and hygiene supplies. Aaron turned what he saw into action.
Through donation drives and community partnerships, he helped distribute more than 9,000 supplies including food, clothing, toys, hygiene items and school supplies. He also organized disaster-relief efforts and workshops to pack supply kits for communities in need.
His work has reached thousands of people. More than 5,000 low-income families received supply kits, while 500+ handmade crafts reached hospital patients and vulnerable communities. Aaron also organized relief efforts supporting migrant farm workers in Mexico and communities affected by wildfires in California. Through workshops and other initiatives, he has reached more than 250 underserved young people and helped bring essential support to communities when they needed it most.
