Suhana Rahman Shukonna

“Mental health is not a privilege, it is a right. When we build systems of care and choose to listen, we create a world where no child is left alone in their struggle.”

Suhana Rahman Shukonna (16), is a young changemaker from Bangladesh who turned personal loss into purpose. After losing a close peer and witnessing how many adolescents silently struggled with emotional distress and stigma, she recognized how urgently young people needed safe spaces to talk about mental health—especially in a society where such conversations are often discouraged.

Suhana plays a leading role in building Talk Hope, a youth-led platform where young people can openly discuss emotional challenges and find peer support in a stigma-free space. She facilitates workshops and peer-led sessions that help children express their feelings and normalize mental health conversations. She also trains young volunteers in active listening and basic psychological first aid, strengthening peer support networks so vulnerable children can be identified and helped early.

With backing from family, mentors, and organizations, Suhana has extended her impact beyond cities. Through partnerships like the China Bangladesh Friendship Center, she has helped bring mental health awareness to rural and underserved communities, giving more young people access to the support they need.
