“Every child, no matter how rare their condition, has the right to be seen, understood, and supported — and it’s our responsibility to build systems that protect their dignity, health, and voice.”

Michael-Christopher Suman

Michael-Christopher (17), is from Poland living in The Netherlands. Michael-Christopher’s motivation started at home, watching his mother navigate Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) — a complex, often misunderstood condition. That experience showed him how little awareness exists for children and families facing rare and chronic illnesses.

He founded and leads Detailing for MCAS, a youth-driven nonprofit advocating for children affected by the condition. Under his leadership, the organization has raised over $150,000 for research and awareness, built an international network across more than 20 countries with over 15,000 volunteers, and established youth-led chapters that run their own local events and fundraisers.

Michael-Christopher has also authored a children’s book, available on Amazon and Apple Books, to help young readers understand chronic illness and build self-advocacy and confidence. He developed a mobile app, MastCell Tracker, to help patients monitor symptoms and manage their condition. Along the way, he’s partnered with hospitals and medical professionals, secured grants, and coordinated care packages for children navigating complex medical needs.

With his mother’s steady encouragement, Michael-Christopher is helping ensure children with rare and chronic illnesses are seen, understood, and treated with the dignity they deserve.
